Where Are Tommie Smith and John Carlos?

Where is the Brown Power Movement in the All Star Game?

by Max
Tuesday night was the All Star Game and it took place in the racist state of Arizona. In 1968, two Olympians raised their fist in opposition to the treatment of African Americans in the United States as they were receiving their gold and silver medals. That was a powerful symbol of the 1960s that became an iconic image of the era. The 1993 Super Bowl was moved out of Arizona because the state would not recognize the Martin Luther King holiday. Why nothing for this war on undocumented workers in Arizona? Why wasn't the All Star Game moved? Why didn't any of the players protest? Many of the stars stayed home, but none said that they were protesting.

There were protests outside the stadium, but those did not seem to get much coverage in the mainstream media. The Hispanic players could have all worn a brown arm band, and paid the MLP fine. They could have on Monday notified MLB that they would not be playing in Arizona, which means 40% of the All Stars would need to be replaced the day before the event. They could have made a stink back in January during the off season saying that they would not attend. What happened to the Latino players? Why aren't they willing to put themselves on the line for the greater good? I don't understand why they are not concerned that their parents can be stopped in Arizona and asked to "show your papers"?
