Why Go Back?

by Max Johnson

There are plenty of candidates out there. So why go back to the Corporate Party? Have they reformed and admitted their mistakes? Isn't that one of the steps to recovery? "Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs." I don't remember this step. Then there is step 9, "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others." This is the step that George made famous: "I don't know. A little thing called Step Nine? Instead of an apology, he was beboppin' and scattin' all over me." I missed the Corporate party making amends for two unnecessary wars, the corporate welfare of the last 10 years, the drowning of New Orleans, the housing bubble, the explosion of the US deficit over the last 10 years, torture, wiretapping Americans, and many other issues. Maybe the head of the Repubican Party could go on Harry Shearer's radio show and spend the hour apologizing for all they did wrong.

There is a ton of anger out there, but why go back? I understand voting for the libertarian or the constitutional party because that would shake up the political system. But if you are angry at the Democrats, why vote for the evil twin brother of the Dems? How could that be considered a change? Even these tea party people are often recycled corporate party members like Dick Armey who was the former House Corporate Majority Leaders. I just don't understand how they would say let's punish the Dems by seeking a change that brings back the tired old ideas. If you are angry, vote for the Libertarians or the Constitution party.
