Republicans No Longer Have the Good of the Country At Heart

I have been depressed about the Election, obviously.  Now, feeling terrified over the most unqualified cabinet in my lifetime.  A friend said, "It can't be all bad.  There has to be one Republican you trust." This got me thinking and I could not come up with one Republican that I trust.  There is not one who I believe puts their country or their state ahead of their personal finances and business entanglements. 

Remember John Danforth a Senator from Missouri who also chaired the investigation into the disaster at Waco Branch Davidian raid. He was an Episcopal Minister and was the last of the honorable Republicans.  You always knew that he was trying to work for the good of the country.  You could disagree with him, but you knew he was doing what he thought was best.  What ever happened to the John Danforth section of the Republican Party?  I cannot think of one honorable Republican in office today.  They act as a short-sighted party of now with no vision or concern for the consequences of their actions.

I cannot think of one Republican who would put country above their own politics.  Rob Portman is a political opportunist who goes along with the others to get elected.  You never heard from him until he was up for re-election then he focused on the opiod addiction crisis.  Not that we got much out of that attention like a prohibition on the distribution of pain meds or more detox beds.  He was our trade representative, but then represented himself as a champion of the working man after millions of job fled the country due to his treaties.  Even the Republicans who opposed Trump (Sasse and Flake) contributed to the division in the country by opposing gay marriage, not wanting health care for America and blaming the weak and fragile for the problems in America.

What have they accomplished?  Look at the states that are at the bottom of education, health care, poverty, etc and you will find they are led by Republicans.  They do not care about climate change or the impact of stripping regulations on the environment or worker safety or the health of the community.  Fewer regulations led to the Great Recession, the Flint Water crisis, and the ability for a terrorist to get a gun to shoot up the Pulse Nightclub.  Republicans only care about their own political fortunes, their donors (rich people) and maintaining power.  They have all that they wanted.  They have the White House, Congress, most of the Governorships, and they are in complete control.  

They can't blame President Obama, or the Senate or the judiciary anymore.  It is all the Republican show now.  Democrats have been cast into the wilderness.  They are in charge of a few states, but otherwise are non entities. It will take decades to rebuild, and this country will tear itself apart with division and straw men.  We will fight with eachother based on our feelings and setting aside all facts.  It is a dark time.
